The challenge: routes that are driven rarely
Most drivers know their regular routes perfectly. Things are different with a route driven a few times a year, a school service, an evening or weekend variant, or a route taken back after a long absence. In these situations the driver has to remember a path, its stops and its timing points, often alone at the wheel. Hesitations lead to wrong turns, missed stops, delays and stress.
How the app helps
- Turn-by-turn guidance on the exact route of each trip, built from the operator's GTFS data.
- Visual and audio instructions and every stop shown on the map with its scheduled time.
- Off-route alert as soon as the bus leaves the planned path.
- On Time Running indicator at each stop, to find the right pace of the route again.
- Demo mode that simulates a trip, to review a route before driving it.
A refresher at any time, on the companion website
Before a shift, drivers can review a route at home or at the depot on the companion website: every route, stop and turn-by-turn step of the network is displayed on an interactive map, and can be printed or shared with a link. Trainers can use it to prepare refresher sessions.
Typical situations
- Drivers returning after a long absence, holidays or a period on other duties.
- Routes driven occasionally: school services, evening, weekend or seasonal variants.
- Spare drivers who cover many different routes.
- Drivers moving to another depot or another part of the network.
Benefits for the operator
- Consistent route knowledge across all drivers, all year round.
- Less time spent by trainers and supervisors on refreshers.
- Fewer wrong turns and missed stops, and better punctuality.
- Greater flexibility in rostering: any driver can take any route with confidence.
