## Train new bus drivers on their routes faster

Learning the routes is one of the longest and most stressful parts of becoming a bus driver. With My Bus Driver GPS Companion, new drivers are guided turn by turn along the exact route of their trip, stop by stop, so they can start driving sooner and with confidence.

### The challenge: route learning

A new driver may need to know dozens of routes, each with variants, specific stops and timing points. Traditionally this is learnt from paper route booklets, ride-alongs with experienced drivers and a lot of memorisation. It takes time, ties up trainers, and drivers who hesitate on their route are more stressed, more likely to miss a stop and more likely to leave the job.

### How the app helps

- **Turn-by-turn guidance on the real route:** the path comes from the operator's GTFS data, where a consumer GPS looks for the fastest road.
- **Visual and audio instructions,** so the driver keeps their eyes on the road.
- **Every stop on the map** with its name and scheduled time, so every stop is served.
- **On Time Running indicator** at each stop (early, on time, late) to learn the right pace of the route.
- **Off-route alert** if the driver leaves the planned path.
- **Demo mode** that simulates a trip, to discover a route before driving it.

### Before the first shift: the companion website

Drivers can prepare their routes at home or at the depot on the companion website: every route, stop and turn-by-turn step is displayed on an interactive map, and can be printed. Trainers can share a link to a specific trip.

### Continuous training

Route knowledge fades. A driver returning to a route after several months, or driving it occasionally, can rely on the app rather than on memory. The same applies when the network changes: new lines, restructured routes or new stops are integrated from the updated GTFS, and every driver is guided on the new version from day one.

### Benefits for the operator

- Shorter route-learning time and less trainer time per new driver.
- Less stress for new drivers, which helps retention.
- Fewer missed stops and wrong turns, and better punctuality.
- Easier recruitment: candidates new to the area can start on any route.

> "Really very very helpful […] it just took a lot of the stress out." – Bus driver using the app
