## Rail replacement buses and special event services

When trains are replaced by buses, or when shuttles are set up for a concert, a match or a festival, drivers have to drive brand-new temporary routes, to stops that exist for just a few days. My Bus Driver GPS Companion gives them turn-by-turn guidance on these temporary lines.

### Why these services are hard

- The route is new: it sits outside the regular network, and often outside the passenger timetable data too.
- Temporary stops are near stations or venues, sometimes in places buses rarely go.
- Drivers often come from several depots or from other companies and are new to the area.
- Services must be set up quickly, sometimes for a single weekend.

### How it works

1. A temporary line is created in the administration tool: the path is drawn on the map and snapped to the road network, and the stops are placed where they are needed. An existing temporary line can be duplicated to save time.
2. The line is sent to the devices and appears in the app and on the companion website, like any other route.
3. Drivers select the line and are guided turn by turn, with every stop shown on the map and an alert if they leave the route.

This approach is already used in production for temporary bus lines and post-event transport services.

### Benefits

- Drivers from any depot or contractor can drive the service from their very first trip.
- Fewer wrong turns and missed stops at the busiest moments.
- One single tool for regular and temporary services.
